Custom Site Built Homes With Heart!
Talk about a great surprise…I received a flyer in my office mailbox about a new homes community in New Smyrna Beach called Florida Days. The brochure was understated in a very tasteful way and it peaked my curiosity to go see this development for myself.
The entire premise and flavor of this community is to develop the land in an eco-friendly way. Rather than throwing up a couple hundred houses, builder Michael Hickson of Hickson Construction has taken the high road and he is creating a village of homes that blend in to our natural Florida surroundings.
Nature trails weave through the perimter of the development. A park located in the very center of the development with huge oaks and plants that are native to our area create a sense of tranquility and peace rarely found in new homes community. Mr. Hickson has strict guidelines on how many trees he will down to put up a house because he is preserving the natural beauty that so often is bull dozed for the sake of expediency.
Florida Style Homes
Not only are the homes carefully tucked away behind plenty of green space, their materials and specifications are all designed with an eye to conservation of energy as well. When R19 is code for insulation, Hickson Construction uses R39. Many items that would be considered upgrades are standard in these homes.
Hardwood floors, ceramic tiling, hurricane protection included, 10′ ceilings and crown molding to name a few. Driveways and entrances through alley ways in some sections allow the homes the panoramic view of the park and it creates a lifestyle of sitting on your front porch and actually having conversations with your neighbors.
Perhaps what sold me most about this terrific concept and community in progress is the fact that Mr. Hickson lives down a nature trail from it. When a builder is willing to live where the buyers….neighbors can knock on his door and complain…you know he’s building his homes and living his life to a higher standard that used to be the norm….in old Florida.
